- In January 2008, AHL launched art history classes for the Korean-speaking general public in New York. Taught by Jeehey Kim, courses include Invitation to Modern/Contemporary Art, History of Photography, and Modern Art by Topics. AHL also has conducted workshops for artists: The Artist Statement (taught by Wolhee Choe), Sook Jin Jo: About Art and Copyright and How to Survive as an Artist (talks by Kyung Jeon and Haeri Yoo). It has also hosted many studio visits, including the studios of Shin Il Kim, Ran Hwang, Jean Shin, and Mike and Doug Starn. In addition, AHL led several field trips to museums, such as the Museum of Modern Art and Storm King Art Center. In May 2008, we invited Robert Storr, Dean of the School of Art at Yale University and former curator at MoMA, to give a special lecture, co-sponsored by the Korean Cultural Service, drawing over one hundred guests. |

- AHL Foundation continues to maintain its mission not only through its current programs, but also by developing new programs and deepening the quality of existing ones. Currently, we are offering an art history course titled Art in New York, which includes visits to art museums and galleries, giving a hands-on experience of classroom learning. Our first visit was to the Whitney Museum of American Art. The class meets every Tuesday for twenty weeks through May 26th, 2009. And we continue to visit artists’ studios. Recently we visited the Manhattan studio of Po Kim, whose career spans more than fifty years. A special lecture by Melissa Chiu, Director of Asia Society is scheduled for March 25, 2009 at the Korean Cultural Service. |
