The AHL Foundation is pleased to announce the Weaving Space and Time exhibition by Misoon Park, Renee Magnanti and Jang SoonIm. A craft was not in Arts in the past, however, it seems over the border after Marcel Duchamp era. Here are three artists, who contain both Contemporary and folk art elements; Renee keeps a craftsmanship, weaving technique (fork art technique), and her souse are from women’s craftworks in contemporary developing countries such as China, India, and West Europecountries; Jang Soon is aware of Contemporary art elements like as a collage technique, duplication method, and using celebrities, and he mixes cleverly those contemporary elements with Asian historical scene in era of Japanese invasion of Korea, Three Kingdoms of China, and Queen Seon-Deok; and Misoon Park collects images from all over the world and paints them in her wood board. Therefore, these three artists has common, which is connect eras from past to current and places from East to West.

Renee Magnanti’s sculptures and printer inspired by oriental patterns and calligraphy from other languages and cultures. Especially her sculptures, several layers of carved patterns, are symbol of past era, past culture, and history. Various layers of colors along with distinguished shapes and pattern creates unique huggable sculptures. Another series of Renee is the paper weaving, which is combine with print and weaving technique. Two different designs of print are cut by order and combine through weaving technique.

Jang Soon Im is unveiling new series of his works during the AHL Foundation Residency Program 2014 spring. He painted scene of computer game, Sam GookJi, which was popular from 1985 to 1995 in South Korea. This series is still related other series of him, which re-creates scenes of historical battles from Korean dynastic history.

Images in Misoon Park’s paintings are come from all over the world because she collects images while web surfing, and she combines two or three images to one. It seems awkward and wired, but it is fun and looks comfortable. Park’s recent works focus on only one kind of character in same theme such as dogs, teddy bears, and manikins. And she pointed out one as a leader in the painting and give them special and outstanding character than others.
