2025 AHL – Grace Charity Foundation Research Fellowship Application Guidelines
Overview
The AHL–Grace Charity Foundation Research Fellowship is an annual one-year fellowship open to art historians, researchers, and curators with an interest in researching and archiving the activities of artists of Korean heritage. The selected fellow will contribute to the development of the Archive of Korean Artists in America (AKAA) as part of the AHL Foundation’s mission to recognize and support the accomplishments of talented Korean artists working in the United States.
About
This research fellowship was made possible thanks to support from the Grace Charity Foundation. Founded by Kim Jin-soo, CEO of Image Solutions, a world-class life science company, and his wife, Kim Eun-sil, a board member of AHL Foundation, the Grace Charity Foundation seeks to support both educational and Christian missionary activities. Since 2015, the AHL Foundation and Grace Charity Foundation have awarded this fellowship annually to a scholar focusing their research on Korean artists and archiving their activities and work.
- Application Period: March 3, 2025 – May 31, 2025 (11:59pm EDT)
- Notification of Result: August 1, 2025
Eligibility & Requirements
- An ideal candidate would be someone with a strong academic background in Korean Contemporary Art.
- Experience in digital archiving is preferred.
- Candidates must have excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. English and Korean bilingual proficiency is preferred.
- The AKAA Fellow will be expected to devote at least one day a week at the gallery for researching, collecting, and digitizing archival materials, including assisting with gallery administration work.
- A stipend of $4,000 will be available for the Research Fellow. Preference is given to applicants who live and work in (or near) New York City.
- Fellowship recipients must attend the Awards Ceremony on November 1, 2025.

2025 AHL – Kim Family Fund Senior Research Fellowship Application Guidelines
Overview
The AHL – Kim Family Fund Research Fellowship is an annual one-year fellowship open to art historians, researchers, and curators with an interest in researching and archiving the activities of artists of Korean heritage. The selected fellow will contribute to the development of the Archive of Korean Artists in America (AKAA) as part of the AHL Foundation’s mission to recognize and support the accomplishments of talented Korean artists working in the United States.
About
In order to establish greater continuity and consistency within the Archive of Korean Artists in America (AKAA), AHL Foundation established the AHL-AKAA Senior Research Fellowship in 2020 with the help and support of several accomplished artists in the Korean American community. From 2021, the Research Fellowship was renamed as AHL – Kim Family Fund Research Fellowship and has been generously supported by the Kim Family Fund (Founded by Tchah Sup Kim and Myong Hi Kim).

AKAA – Ran Hwang Fund
Overview
The AHL-AKAA (Archive of Korean Artists in America) Ran Hwang Fund is an annual one-year fund for the operation and development of the AKAA. This fund aims to provide an internal grant for AKAA’s development. The selected recipient will have the opportunity to develop AKAA’s strategies in a leadership position with the Fund. AHL Foundation established the AHL-AKAA Ran Hwang Fund in 2022 with the help and support of Korean artist Ran Hwang.
About
In September 2022, AHL Foundation launched the AKAA – Ran Hwang Fund in collaboration with sculptural artist Ran Hwang. This funding will enable AKAA (The Archive of Korean Artists in America) to bring in expertise to enhance our goals of collecting and preserving crucial archival materials of artists of Korean heritage working in the United States. Ran Hwang, the first winner of AHL Foundation’s Visual Art Award in 2004, has been instrumental in supporting this initiative.

About Ran Hwang
Born in the Republic of Korea in 1960, Ran Hwang currently lives and works in both Seoul and New York City. She studied her BFA in Fine Art and studied MPS in Art Practice at the School of Visual Arts in New York. Ran Hwang has exhibited at several international institutions including the Queens Museum of Art, New York ; Baker Museum, Florida ; Asian Civilizations Museum, Singapore; UNESCO Headquarters, Paris.
Hwang’s work is also a part of numerous private and public collections including The Brooklyn Museum, New York; Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; The Des Moines Center for the Arts, Iowa; Art Bank, The National Museum of Contemporary Art, Seoul; and Abu Dhabi Royal Palace, Abu Dhabi.
