AHL Foundation, a non-profit organization supporting Korean artists, is proud to present a solo exhibition of artist Hyong Nam Ahn, on view from Thursday, February 11th to July 31st, 2021 at the Bank of Hope Manhattan Branch (16 W 32nd St, New York, NY 10001). The exhibition will feature new sketches and drawings produced by the artist as part of several sculptures works being made for an upcoming show at the 2021 Venice Biennale of Architecture. The drawings reflect his thoughts on the dramatic changes in our everyday lives brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic. This exhibition is part of AHL Foundation’s Art in the Workplace program in partnership with the Bank of Hope. Through this program, AHL Foundation seeks to support the creative activities of local Korean artists and help provide the general public and business world with greater access to contemporary art.
Hyong Nam Ahn (b.1955-) earned his BFA and MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1980. Informed by the Kinetic Art movement in the 1960s, his sculptures integrate lights, sound and movement. Ahn has received numerous commissions for public sculptures from notable institutions, such as the McDonald Corporation, Kirkland, WA; McCormick Place Donnelly Hall World Convention Center, Chicago, Il, Princeton, Theological Seminary, NJ, and recently Sarang Church, Seoul, Korea. He designed the main stadium torch tower for the ‘88 Olympic Games. Ahn has also held solo exhibitions at prestigious museums including the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago, IL: Ohio University Art Museum, Oxford, Ohio; and recently the SOMA Museum of Art and Moran Museum of Art in Seoul, Korea.
