Yusam Sung graduated from Hong-ik University in South Korea and received an MFA from Long Island University. He is a winner of the 11th Visual Arts Competition by the AHL Foundation in 2014. He was also selected for the residency program of Sculpture Space in Utica, New York.
As an installation artist, he uses sponge foam, wire, threads, and other found objects to create three-dimensional objects that are familiar to viewers: waves, columns, clouds, wine glass, and so on. He cleverly intertwines grave subjects of death, seduction, destruction or disappearance with a sense of humor. He also challenges viewers to abandon or suspect a conventional mode of representation and perception of visual objects with ingenuous installation of these objects in space.
He has held many exhibitions and is planning more monumental installations. During the studio visit, participants will hear about his upcoming projects and new ideas. The visit is led by Professor Kyunghee Pyun, State University of New York, F.I.T.
