Kakyoung Lee is a printmaker and animation/installation artist. Her studio is located in Brooklyn, NY. She received a BA and MFA from Hong-ik University and another MFA from SUNY Purchase College in Westchester County, New York. She has been a recipient of numerous awards and grants: 2009 Visual Arts Competition of the AHL Foundation; 2010 KAFA Award; 2010 Pollock-Krasner Foundation; 2011-2012 Artist residency program at ISCP (International Studio & Curatorial Program) in Brooklyn; and 2012 Artist residency program at Omi International Art Center, Ghent, NY.
Lee’s works are in the collections of McNay Art Museum, TX, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, NYC, and Library of Congress, Washington D.C. among others. She has mastered all sorts of printing techniques and often creates a moving image using hundreds of printed images, if not thousands. Her installation of Climbing Up for W10th Window Inaugural show was a huge success. Her moving image of Untitled-Grand Army Plaza, Brooklyn, NY, 03.09. is acquired by the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
During this studio visit, Lee will talk about inspirations for her art works and painstaking process of printing making. She also teaches print making at Bard College. AHL’s studio visit will be guided by Dr. Kyunghee Pyun, assistant professor of Fashion Institute of Technology, SUNY.
