New York, NY.  AHL Foundation, a non-profit organization supporting Korean artists, is proud to announce the ‘Jimin Yi Baek’s Solo Exhibition’ as part of its Art in the Workplace program. The exhibition will take place at Bank of Hope’s Manhattan branch located at 16 West 32nd Street, New York, NY 10001.

Artist Jimin Yi Baek focuses on language and conversations in her paintings. This exhibition will showcase 9 pieces from her ongoing “Idling Conversations” series, which she has been working on since 2021. The exhibited works represent the artist’s attempts and processes to liberate art from its fate as a ‘communicative medium’ through conceptually-driven painting practices. The misfit, broken use of figurative and abstract painting languages exemplify this approach.

“Jimin Yi Baek presents paintings that create a collective void regarding communicational outcomes, speaking to the paradox that ‘Only through the tunnels of despair, there is a pathway of hope.’ This exhibition will be an opportunity to experience the artist’s deep contemplation and reflection on her painting practices.” – Jiyoung Lee, Director of Programs at AHL Foundation

Jimin Yi Baek was born in Seoul and received her BFA in Painting from Hongik University and her MFA from Pratt Institute. She was awarded the MyMA Artist Grant in 2023 and has participated in numerous group exhibitions based in New York.

This exhibition is part of AHL Foundation’s Art in the Workplace program, which aims to make Korean contemporary art accessible to all within the commercial spaces of daily life. Thanks to the partnership between AHL Foundation and Bank of Hope, visitors can enjoy the exhibition at Bank of Hope’s Manhattan branch until December 31, 2024, during operating hours (9:00 AM – 5:00 PM).
