AHL Foundation Hosts Special Book Talk with Dr. Mina Kim

AHL Foundation is pleased to host a special book talk featuring Dr. Mina Kim, Assistant Professor of Art History at the University of Alabama. The event will take place on Friday, October 11, 2024. During the talk, Dr. Kim will discuss her forthcoming book, Contemporary Korean Art: New Directions since the 1960s, which will be published in the UK on November 1, 2024, and made available worldwide in December. The book explores critical themes and genres, including performance art, gender and identity, the interplay of local and global influences, and the evolution of contemporary multimedia practices over the past 60 years of modern Korean art. Dr. Mina Kim specializes in contemporary Korean art, Korean American art, East Asian art, and transnational visual culture and communication. She is also the author of Jung Yeondoo’s Media Art: Quantum Deformation through Coincidence of the Real and the Virtual (2018) and is currently working on a new book titled No Boundaries on Boundaries: Transnational Communication and Consilience in Korean American Art and Visual Culture. Dr. Kim has published numerous articles on East Asian visual culture and contemporary art. Sook Nyu Lee, President of AHL Foundation, shared her thoughts on the upcoming talk: “This book talk provides valuable insights into the development of Korean art over the past 60 years and offers a deep exploration of Dr. Kim’s research. 재미 한인 예술 지원 비영리 단체인 알재단(대표: 이숙녀)이 오는 10월 11일(금) 앨라배마 대학교 미술사 조교수 김민아 박사의 특별 북토크 행사를 개최한다. 김 박사는 2024년 11월 1일 영국에서 출간되어 12월부터는 전 세계 각국에 소개 될 예정인 본인의 신간 <현대 한국 미술: 1960년대 이후의 새로운 방향>에 대해 이야기 할 예정이다. 이 책은 지난 60년 동안 현대 한국 미술의 핵심적인 틀을 제공하며, 퍼포먼스 아트, 젠더와 정체성, 한국과 글로벌 영향의 상호 작용, 현대 멀티미디어 작품들의 진화와 발전을 포함한 다양한 주제별과 장르를 다룬다. 김민아 박사는 한국 현대 미술, 코리안 아메리칸 미술, 동아시아 미술, 초국적 시각 문화 및 커뮤니케이션을 연구하고 있으며, 정연두의 미디어 아트: 현실과 가상의 우연을 통한 양자적 변형 (2018)의 저자이기도 하다. 또한 현재는 경계 안에서 확장되는 무경계: 한국계 미국인 예술과 시각 문화의 초국가적 소통과 통섭 이라는 새로운 책을 집필 중이다. 그외에도 동아시아 시각 문화 및 현대 미술에 대한 다수의 논문을 발표해 왔다. 알재단의 이숙녀 회장은 “이번 북토크 행사는 지난 60년간의 한국 미술의 발전에 대한 통찰을 제공하며, 김 박사의 연구를 깊이 있게 알아볼 수 있는 소중한 기회다. 많은 참여 바란다.”라고 토크 행사 소감을 밝혔다. 사전 예약 필요하며 북토크는 영어로 진행 된다. 자세한 문의는 Info@ahlfoundation.org
