Aram Han Sifuentes awarded for the 2020 AHL – Andrew & Barbara Choi Family Foundation Grant

AHL Foundation, a non-profit organization supporting Korean artists, is proud to announce the Recipient of the 2020 AHL – Andrew & Barbara Choi Family Foundation. Launched with the full support of the Andrew & Barbara Choi Family Foundation, this fund supports the new project of a promising artist. The awardee of this year is Aram Han Sifuentes. She earned her BA in Art and Latin American Studies from the University of California, Berkeley, and her MFA in Fiber and Material Studies from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. As an immigrant and a daughter of Korean immigrant family, artist Aram Han has been actively engaged in art practices throughout the U.S. under the theme of immigrants’ labor, citizenship, and identity of people of color. The $5,000 prize money will be used to fund the artist’s solo exhibition at the Skirball Cultural Center and Museum in Los Angeles, California, in the second half of this year. In particular, the exhibition will showcase the artist’s current progressive work, “The Official Unofficial Voting Station,” in line with the characteristics of the Sculval Art Center’s venue. Meanwhile, the Andrew Barbara Choi Family Foundation, a New Jersey-based charity founded by Andrew Choi, founder of Bulbrite Industries, Inc., has been sponsoring the Korean community and associated organizations in New York since 2014.

 

 

알재단 ‘알–앤드류 바바라 최 패밀리 재단 기금’ 수상자 선정

인종, 이민 등 사회 이슈 다루며 작업 활동 ··· 한아람 작가

비영리 미술인 지원단체 알재단(AHL Foundation 대표 이숙녀)은 올해의 AHL- Andrew & Barbara Choi Family Foundation Grant 의 수상자로 한아람 작가를 선정했다. 앤드류 앤 바바라 패밀리 재단 (Andrew & Barbara Choi Family Foundation)의 전폭적인 지원으로 시작된 본 기금은 역량 있는 작가의 신생 프로젝트를 지원한다. 올해의 수상자로 선정된 한아람작가는 시카고 예술대학교 ( School of the Art Institute of Chicago) 석사 과정을 졸업한 후, 한인 이민 가정에서 자란 성장 배경을 바탕으로 이민자의 노동, 시민권, 유색 인종의 정체성을 주제로 미국 전역에서 활발한 작품 활동을 전개해 왔다. 수상금 $5,000은 올해 하반기 LA의 스컬발 아트센터(Skirball Cultural Center and Museum in Los Angeles, California)에서 열리는 작가의 개인전의 후원금으로 사용된다. 특히 이번 전시에서는 스컬발 아트센터 장소 특성에 맞추어 작가의 현재 진행형 작품, ‘The Official Unofficial Voting Station ( 공식적 비공식 투표소)’를 선보일 예정이다. 한편, 본 기금을 후원하는 앤드류 바바라 최 가족 재단은 뉴저지에 위치한 자선단체로, 유명 조명 회사인 벌브라이트 (Bulbrite Industries, Inc.)의 창업자인 최언도씨가 설립해 2014년부터 뉴욕의 한인 커뮤니티와 관련 단체에 후원을 지속하고 있다.
